Expectatios and Hope for Critical Literacy

Question : You heard comments and may be grievances from your seniors about Critical Literacy, but what is/are your expectation (s) or hope for this subject as you are just started.

Critical Literacy, What is Critical Literacy? When I heard the name of this subject, I was in semester 3; I was in my Literature Appreciation class when I heard comments from seniors that Critical Literacy is not a subject to be taken lightly. At that moment, I don't really want to know more about the subject since I am having trouble liking the current subject. However, as I am starting a new semester; I am beginning to wonder about the subject. I begin to remember an advice given from a senior, he said that if we are to receive assignments from this particular subject, do not procrastinate! I am now agreeing with him.
First of all, what is Critical Literacy from my point of view? Critical Literacy means critical thinking on literature. It means that I have to go in depth into the literature itself. Actually, I never understand how to think critically? I did try to understand it though. So, I start from telling myself that, critical thinking is to look at the subject from different aspects and angles. Question yourself with what, why, where, when, who, and how. In addition to that, I need to start searching for evidence for every question. That is then my opinion on Critical Literacy.
Moreover, when I thought about the senior's comments towards this subject, I felt anxious and worried. At the same time, I feel that those comments are normal and are to expect because every semester and subject is a challenge. However, I do have hope and expectations from this subject. As I started Critical Literacy class, I hope that at least I can give my all and commitment towards the subject. I hope that I can understand what the lecturer is teaching about. I also want to be able to do critical thinking. I want to understand how to think critically. I want to understand how the lecturer can achieved that high level of thinking.
As I learn further into the subject, I feel amaze of how different the way I am thinking of the particular subject and how my lecturer think. Our opinion, defines our level of thinking. I am beginning to feel how lacking I am in knowledge. So, through this subject, I want to be able to add my choice of genre in my choice of reading materials. I want to try liking reading about current issues, global issues and history itself. It is a big challenge for me because I always prefer fiction as my reading material. In addition, I want to increase my vocabulary. I want to add mature and bombastic words to my vocabulary, that way someday I get to write the best and meaningful articles.
So far, that is my hope and expectations from this Critical Literacy subject. I hope I can gain meaningful knowledge and be more mature and wise in thinking after this.
