My View after Learning Critical Literacy

Question: You have almost completed this semester, so, how do you view Critical Literacy now? If you have any comments and suggestions, please do so as it helps for the betterment of the course as a whole.

It seems like only yesterday that I am looking at my purple text book, thinking of how challenging this subject will be. I was afraid back then and honestly I still do now. I am afraid that I might not do well on this very subject. How do I view Critical Literacy? I do not know how to view it really since it makes me feel worst then before. I am not saying that this subject is bad, I am the one who needs to do better. I am not able to really understand The Rule of 10, and this will surely affect my assignments and VIVA presentation. Even by thinking about it now makes me feel like crying but I know well that it will not change anything. I only hope that I am able to pass this subject with flying color, at least a B if not an A. I may be too hopeful, but it is my target for this subject. I may be a semester 4 students, but I believed that I need to study more to achieve this level of critical thinking.

As comments for this subject, I think that this subject needed really needs a lot of attention to be given to and I found it hard to able to do that as there are other commitments that needing my attention. Still, it is my fault for not able to use my time wisely. Furthermore, some suggestions for this subject is that I hope, step by step on how to do the Rule of 10 is to be done, so that the students really understand about it so that they can do their assignments and VIVA presentation. Also, I once hope that at least there is one hour of the subject that focus on helping the students with their Rule of 10 assignments. This is because, even until now, I am not sure how to identify the stands of the author and how to be able to come out with premises.

Lastly, I still want to thank my Critical Literacy lecturer for having the patience to teach me this subject, I am sorry for not being able to master this subject but I am really thankful to be given the chance to learn it. Thank you for all the knowledge and time. Thank you for being my teacher.

Life is a mere illusion and just like the world is a stage as we use it as a stepping stone for a showcase of our talents

Question: Proposition: Life is a mere illusion and just like the world is a stage as we use it as a stepping stone for a showcase of our talents. Provide at least two (2) premises or counter arguments for the proposition. Write in a complete paragraph(s).

“Life is mere illusion and just like the world is a stage as we use it as a stepping stone for a showcase of our talents”. This proposition is telling us that the world we live in is only temporary and it would not last long. We are to believe that we must be the best among the best and because of that we struggle to achieve what is needed to make sure we achieve our target. Our life and the world we live in are temporary. It is borrowed to us by our creator. It is not something that we can simply get or purchased. We cannot even borrow it from someone else if we are to know that our life is going to an end. This life that have been borrowed to us does not even have an expired date, one day it will end and we will bring along with us our practices only. So as the world, once our life comes to an end, this world will be the end for us yet still a stage for the living. That is what I believed; our life is an illusion because we live our whole life with dreams. We are to grow up with dreams. Moreover, the world is our stage because with these dreams we have; we use the world as a stage for us to make our dreams a reality.

Our life is an illusion because we live our whole life with dreams. Everyone grows up in different environment and being taught in a different way. Through that everyone grew up with dreams of their own. Being able to achieve their dreams is like their wishes id being granted. According to Sivananda (2001), “Dreams are partial gratification of the wishes”. Dreams related with wishes and wishes only exist in fairy tales thus dreams are only an illusion. It is not wrong to have a dream because that dream is what kept us moving forward. Wanting to believe there is something out there for us is a booster for our enthusiasms to achieved and be somebody in this temporary life.  Next is the world is our stage because it is our platform to make our dreams into a reality. In other word, this world we live in is our stepping stone to be someone. Life offers us a lot of things, it is just up to us whether to grab the opportunity or let it go for something else. It’s the same like we as a student, our school is our stage for us to become someone. We are told to study hard just to get good results in exam, saying that these results are our only ticket to have a good life. What they were not telling us is how much hardship we need to face in real life in order to have a good life. Still, we need to face this life and enjoy it because it would not last forever.

My view on Prof Dr. Mohammad Tajuddin Mohamad Rasdi's Statement

Question: "The latest incident about BFM newsreader being threathened with death, rape and being burnt alive by those I assume to be Malay-Muslim netizens brings forth serious questions for this country. Is this country safe for our children to live in? If a simple point is raised against such issue such as Hudud or even such issue as democracy and clean elections can produce outburst of murder, rape and burning people alive, what does it say about our country, its citizens and our leadership?"...Prof Dr. Mohammad Tajuddin Mohamad Rasdi.
(Speak Up, The Sun, March 26, 2015).

  •       How do you view the above statements?
If a simple point is raised against such issue such as Hudud or even such issue as democarcy and clean elections can produce outburst of murder, rape and burning people alive, what does it say about our country, its citizens and our leadership? My point of view on this statement is that the netizens is being unreasonable.
The BFM newsreader being threathened with death, rape and being burnt alive is known as Aisyah Tajuddin. Prof Dr. Mohammad Tajuddin Mohamad Rasdi who is a former lecturer at UTM is also the father of Aisyah Tajuddin. He came out with that kind of statement because he is upset with the mindset of all these people. Although Aisyah Tajuddin action for making the video called "Hudud Isi Periuk Nasi [Kupas]" (Does Hudud fills our rice bowls?) is not wise, the netizen also shows the same attitude. The netizens is being negative towards Aisyah, because they accused Aisyah for insulting Islam. In my opinion, the netizens also is insulting Islam. Why? Being Malay-Muslim netizens who thought Aisyah is insulting Islam because of this Hudud issue, the netizens is also insulting Islam because of being the 'keyboard warrior' and threathening Aisyah with such threat like death, rape and being burnt alive. This is because, Islam is not that cruel. Islam is not negative. If the netizens really care about Islam and Hudud, they should not came out with the threat of "Burn her alive", "Wait till I rape you, woman." and "If I see you in front of me, I'll shoot you in the head." beacause all of these threat and comments is against Islam's principle. What they did only make Islam seems cruel and negative.

All of this also goes back to the question "If a simple point is raised against such issue such as Hudud or even such issue as democarcy and clean elections can produce outburst of murder, rape and burning people alive, what does it say about our country, its citizens and our leadership?". These netizens manage to make our country looks like its not a safe country anymore. This outburst shows the maturity level of the netizens, and knowing that the netizens is being the citizens of the country, then, is the citizens is also immature. How about our leaders? Questions rises because of an action. The netizens need to stop being the "keyboard warrior" because they only listens to themselves. They think they are always right. This immature action cannot be practic if everyone want a safe and peaceful country. Moreover, everyone should think wisely before doing something. It is better to be safe than sorry.

Women Shouldn't Be Behind The Wheel

Question : Stereotyping is exegerated generalizations associated with a categorizing system, they go beyond the facts at hand and make claims that usually have no valid basis. However, it is also something that most people find difficult to avoid from doing. So, let's explore your sense of tendency to make generalizations by expanding the following statement:

Women shouldn't be behind the wheel...

The statement that women shouldn’t be behind the wheel is totally true. Why? This topic is not something uncommon to be discussed about. In every part of the world, where there is cars, roads and traffics, you cannot avoid yourself from hearing people said something on this matter. Women shouldn’t be behind the wheel means women should not drive. Of course women should not drive; this is because women are full of emotion. Moreover, women cannot focus on more than one thing at once. Women are also afraid to take risk. How can women drive with all that haunting them? Okay, maybe ‘haunting’ is a bit exaggerating but seriously, when they are not with those conditions it may be alright for them to drive.

Often we heard someone says “Women are a bad driver”, and they are a bad driver. Women are living female humans who are born with emotion. Well of course men do too but women are bad at hiding their emotion or even controlling them. Imagine women plus driving and not to forget emotion, would it a pretty image?

Never let emotional women drive because they tend to focus on their emotion. They will not care about everything around them unless there are happy. Emotion women are women that are mad and grumpy or sad and pathetic.  These women must be avoiding from getting anywhere near cars or even kitchen. Imagine a sad woman driving with tears running down her face and blinding her eyesight, is it not dangerous? She might get herself into an accident and much worse if someone else is involved. This is why women should not drive, because women are full of emotion and negative emotion is not an option for them to be driving.

Furthermore, women should not drive because women cannot focus on more than one thing at a time. While driving, our attention is needed 100% just to focus. This is because, while driving we need to focus on our environment, so that we will know what our next action is and with that only we can concentrate our mind on driving. It explains a lot when mothers used to scold their children who are being loud in the car while they are driving. How can the mother concentrate if her children is whining and shouting next to her ears? She is clearly disturbed by the noise, and tends to get worried about the children at the same time about their own safety. This is why woman are bad at driving, because her mind is always thinking and will instantly distracted. Moreover, women are afraid of risks, because unlike women, men are better at changing lane instantly without worries about other cars but women are not.
